The Citadel Cross Country Team Heads to Orlando for the Disney Classic

Charleston, S.C. – The Bulldog men and women's cross country teams will head to Orlando, Fla., this weekend to compete in the Disney Classic held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex. The two-day event will include both college and high school races. The college race will be run on Saturday, Oct. 8 with the men's 8k beginning at 7:45 a.m., and the women's 5k following at 8:30 a.m.

The Bulldogs last competed on Sept. 24 when they hosted the 31st Annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational at James Island County Park. The Citadel men and women both finished the race in third place with junior Austin Waldrop stepping up for the men to lead all Bulldogs with an 8k time of 27:29. Sophomore Danielle McKee led the Bulldog women for the third consecutive race, finishing the 5k with a time of 19:52.

The Citadel Cross Country team is heading back to the 16th Annual Disney Classic for the first time since 2007 and the coaches and runners are very excited to get back on the fast and festive course.

"The course is flat and the weather has been pretty warm and humid every time we've been there. Of course everyone on the team is excited to be going to Disney and it should be a fun trip," said Bulldog Head Coach Jody Huddleston. "It is a big meet as there will be over 40 teams there. We have been competitive there in the past which is what makes us coaches excited about going."
