Bulldog Cross Country Set to Host 31st Annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel men and women's cross country team will host the 31st-annual Citadel Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24 at James Island County Park. In 2008, the race was changed to the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational in remembrance of fallen Bulldog runner, Will Wilson, who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident on Sept. 7, 2008 in Columbia, S.C.
There will be a total of six races that will begin at the following times:
College Men: 9 a.m.
College Women: 9:45 a.m.
High School Varsity Boys: 10:15 a.m.
High School Varsity Girls: 10:45 a.m.
JV High School Boys: 11:15 a.m.
JV High School Girls: 11:45 a.m.
Sophomore Danielle McKee, who finished seventh overall in last year's home invitational, has led the Bulldogs in every race this season. McKee recorded a time of 20:19 at the Gamecock Invitational on Sept. 2 and improved almost a whole minute at the SoCon pre-conference meet at Trophy Lakes on Sept. 10.
The freshmen combo from Ohio, Emily Fields (Bradford, Ohio) and Nicole Ogilbee (Loveland, Ohio) have consistently run in the second and third spots for the Bulldog women this season recording impressive times in the 20 and 21 minute marks.
On the men's side, junior Kyle Keene has not ran in the previous two races as he was recovering from an injury, but will be back in the Bulldog lineup on Saturday. Keene finished the Gamecock Invitational on Sept. 2 in third place with a time of 15:55.
Freshman Raeven Lantz has proven himself in the first few races of his collegiate career, finishing sixth at the Gamecock Invitational with a time of 16:24 and 21st the following week at the pre-conference race with an 8k time of 27:34. Austin Waldrop, Atom Young and PJ Wasilchak are expected to round out the top five for the Bulldogs.
