Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel's Rachael Farrell and Ise d'Angelo combined for 11 front row kills, but it was not enough to offset College of Charleston who emerged victorious by scores of 25-14, 25-9 and 25-10 on Tuesday evening at McAlister Field House.

Farrell led nine Bulldogs with six kills, while the freshmen tandem of d'Angelo (five kills) and Amanda Rudnik (four kills) rounded out top front row performers. The Citadel was anchored defensively by d'Angelo, with seven digs, while Farrell and Kathryn Johnston contributed six digs each. Sophomore Erin Bucherl handed out nine assists, while Alexa Dahlstrom added eight. The Citadel slipped to 8-21 overall and 1-14 in Southern Conference action.

The duo of Elyse Chubb (12 kills) and Sarah Havel (10 kills), steered the College of Charleston to a .458 hitting percentage and a 43-21 edge in front row kills. Havel converted kills in 12 of 15 total attacks to hit for .800, while Chubb committed only one error to finish with a .769 attack percentage. The defensive efforts of Andi Zbojniewicz (11 digs) and Emily Shelton (10 digs) kept the Bulldogs off-balance throughout the match. College of Charleston improved to 21-9 and 13-2.

Four kills by Havel established a 16-5 CofC lead in the opening set. The Citadel responded with a series of kills by Farrell and Lauren Hurt, ending an eight point drought, which quickly trimmed the lead to 10. The Bulldogs continued to add pressure with back-to-back strikes by d'Angelo and Dahlstrom, making for a 17-9 contest. The two units traded points, before d'Angelo converted a service ace and forced an attack error to cut the College of Charleston lead to 19-12. The Cougars allowed just two Bulldog points down the stretch en route to a 25-14 win.

With its offensive unit clicking on all cylinders, College of Charleston again jumped out to the early lead, 10-2, behind Havel. Three kills by Farrell and one from Rudnik were not enough to keep the Cougars from extending their lead, which swelled to 21-6 following a service ace by Kallie McKown. Following the second Citadel timeout of the match, Havel drove home two kills for CofC to complete the 25-9 second set victory.

The Bulldogs returned from intermission and behind Johnston established an early 2-1 lead, before Havel forced five straight attack errors and allowed CofC to regain the edge 6-2. Citadel kills by Bucherl, Rudnik, Farrell and d'Angelo kept the Dogs within striking distance, 15-9, before a 10-1 run down the stretch completed the College of Charleston win.

The Bulldogs head to Elon for their contest of the 2011 slate, which is set for Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
