Bulldogs Golf Team Prepares for Fifth Match of Fall Season

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Golf team heads to Kiawah Island for their fifth tournament of the fall season when they compete at the 13th annual Palmetto Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event, hosted by College of Charleston will take place on the par-72, 5,907-yard Oak Point golf course.

Teams will play 36 holes on Sunday, Oct. 23, with action set to begin on a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. The final round will take place on Monday, Oct. 24, with a shotgun start set for 9 a.m.

A total of 18 teams, including SoCon foes College of Charleston, Elon, UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina are set to participate. The defending team champion of the event, Kennesaw State, will not be defending their title. However, College of Charleston's Leigh Whittaker, who shot a 205 (-11), is in the field to defend her individual crown.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE CADETS: The Citadel Golf team shot a final round of 329 to finish 15th at the Wendy's Invitational held at the Coosaw Creek Country Club in North Charleston. The Bulldogs fired a second round 321, improving by two strokes on an opening round 331, led by Alanna-Jean Keith (78) and Erica Pellegrini (79).

Pellegrini was The Citadel's top finisher, tying for 41st place after posting a two-day score of 159 (80-79), followed closely by Jean Keith's 161 (83-78).

Rounding out Citadel individuals were Bree Baumgartner (83-80—163), Kellie Anderson (85-92—177) and TaKima Butler (87-92—179), who placed among the top 100 players in the field.

Marshall earned the team crown with a two-day score of +37 (299-306—602), followed by UAB (301-309—610) and Stetson (310-300—610), who finished the tournament tied for second with a +42. The Thundering Herd's Allison Harper shared the individual crown with Jacksonville University's Natalie Schmett, who each hit a respective +1 (71-72—143).
