Bulldogs Golf Team Heads to Great Smokies Intercollegiate

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Golf team returns to action on this week when it competes at the 13th-annual Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Inn-Golf Resort in Waynesville, N.C. The 36-hole event will begin with a shotgun start on Monday, Sept. 19 at 9 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, Sept. 20, again with a 9 a.m shotgun start.

A total of 23 teams, including five who are making first time appearances at the event, will play on the Carolina (2,979 yards) and Blue Ridge (2,953 yards) courses, which feature three par-3 and three par-5 holes. Four Southern Conference schools will participate at the event, including defending champion and tournament host Western Carolina, who has won seven total team titles since 1999.

LAST WEEKEND: The Citadel Golf team completed its first weekend of action in the 2011-12 fall season at the Spartanburg Country Club by placing ninth at the Terrier Intercollegiate. The Citadel finished with back-to-back rounds of 330 (330-330--660), led individually by Bree Baumgartner who shot a 159 (81-78).

Baumgartner finished in a tie for 32nd after firing a round of 79 on Tuesday, followed by teammate Devin Lowe (85-85-170), who tied for 48th. The combination of freshmen Takima Butler (87-86-173) and Kellie Anderson (99-81-180) rounded out individual team scores.
