Buffalo Gets Past The Citadel, 6-1
Charleston, S.C. – David Orces earned a victory in the No. 1 position for the Bulldogs to claim the lone point for The Citadel tennis team in a 6-1 loss to Buffalo. The duo of Alex Howle and Elliott Sperr won in doubles and claimed their second consecutive victory at the Earle Tennis Center.
Orces picked up a win defeating Damien David in two sets, 6-3, 6-3. The Bulldog junior has improved his singles record to 5-4 on the season.
In the No. 3 spot, the tandem of Howle and Sperr netted a win against Alex Kalinin and Yevgeniy Shkodnik in a tight match, 8-7. The Bulldog duo improves to 6-6 on the season.
In a three-set match, James Atkinson in the No. 4 slot for the Dogs fought a tough battle against his Bulls' foe Ivan Vereshcgaga. Atkinson found himself down in the first set 6-4, but established his composure to take the second set 6-0. The sophomore wasn't able to hold off his opponent losing 6-2 in the third.
Competing in the No. 5 position for the first time this season, The Citadel's Peter Bleach also battled in a three-set match against Kalinin. Bleach fell early losing a close first set 7-6, but emerged in the second set to win 6-4. The freshman almost took the match, but fell short in the third 7-6.
The Citadel has dropped to 4-8 on the season while the Bulls improved to 2-7.
The Bulldogs will have some time off of competitive action this week and will return on Saturday as they travel to Spartanburg to take on Wofford at 12 p.m.
