Driesell, Bulldogs Face Western Carolina in Opening Round of SoCon Tournament

2012 Southern Conference Tournament Bracket

Charleston, S.C.—
The Citadel basketball team, winners of two of their last three contests, including victories over Chattanooga and Appalachian State, enters the first round of the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament as the sixth seed out of the South Division. Following Saturday night's season finale, the Bulldogs are slated to open the tournament on Friday, March 2nd at 2 p.m. against third seeded Western Carolina at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C.

The match-up marks third all-time between the two programs in the SoCon Tournament, with the teams splitting the two previous meetings. The Bulldogs earned a 66-62 victory on Feb. 27, 1982 when Les Robinson led The Citadel to a second round meeting with Davidson. It would be 19 years before the two teams met again, this time on on March 1, 2001, with the Catamounts emerging with a 67-57 victory.

The game marks the 73rd in program history for the Bulldogs and second under head coach Chuck Driesell.
