Football’s Jeremy Buncum Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week
Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel's Jeremy Buncum has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for October 26, the league office announced on Wednesday. He is the first student-athlete at The Citadel to win the award in the 2011-12 school year.
Buncum (Charleston, S.C.) helped The Citadel defense hold Western Carolina to just 236 total yards on Saturday, the lowest in any SoCon game this season. The senior linebacker stripped Western Carolina's Michael Johnson of the ball on a fourth down in the fourth quarter and recovered the fumble, which would lead to a Bulldog touchdown. It marked the second consecutive game Buncum recovered a fumble.
The business administration major, who holds a cumulative GPA of 3.6, had seven total tackles (six solo) and a half tackle that resulted in a loss of four yards. He was also in on a sack of Catamounts quarterback Zac Brindise, one of four on the day recorded by the Bulldog defense. The Citadel did not allow any points until less than two minutes left in the game en route to a 35-7 win last weekend at E.J. Whitmire Stadium in Cullowhee, N.C.
The Bulldogs step out of conference this weekend as they face VMI at 1 p.m. at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Oct. 29 for Hall of Fame Weekend.
