Matt Talley Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Citadel's Matt Talley has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for April 13, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Talley (Sumter, S.C.) becomes the second baseball player at The Citadel to win the award in the last three weeks as junior Nick Orvin (Moncks Corner, S.C.) brought home the award on March 30.

The southpaw pitched his second consecutive complete game and the fourth of his career on Friday across cross-town conference rival College of Charleston.  It was Talley's 20th career victory as he struck out three and allowed no walks in the game.  In the sixth inning, the lefty struck out the Cougars' Rob Kral to record his 200th career strikeout.

The Bulldog ace is one of the top engineering students at The Citadel and holds a 3.70 GPA in civil engineering.

The Citadel returns to the diamond this weekend as the Bulldogs travel to Greenville, S.C., to take on Furman for a three-game conference series at Latham Park that begins Friday at 7 p.m. Live stats and audio featuring play-by-play announcer Darren Goldwater calling the action will be available for each game of the series on all new CitadelSports.com.
